Falling for the third day running, the 30-share BSE Sensex tanked 896.7 points or 1.09 per cent to 81,304.46 during the morning trade.
From the 30 Sensex firms, Tata Consultancy Services and HCL Technologies dropped over 3 per cent each. Infosys, Tech Mahindra, Sun Pharma and Tata Motors were the other major laggards. Bajaj Finance, Bajaj Finserv, Nestle, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank and State Bank of India were among the biggest gainers.

India's fourth largest software services firm HCL Technologies on Thursday reported a 53.7 per cent jump in its consolidated net profit to Rs 1,834 crore (Rs 18.34 billion) for the fourth quarter ended June 30, 2014.
Last year the company had acquired four companies, including one in the telecom sector, and plans to do the same in the coming months.
